peas

No freezer should ever be lacking a bag of frozen peas which makes this one of the most convenient purees to whip up. Peas can pose a choking hazard so you must make sure that all the peas have been broken down in the pureeing process (or alternatively you can pass the puree through a sieve to remove the skins).  I also find that pureeing with a little olive oil allows the peas to emulsify like a hummus or pesto and gives a much better final texture.

Combo: add 1/2 avocado for a slightly creamier mixture

Tip: Make a bigger batch, portion up and freeze. You can then pop portions in with hummus, pesto , guacamole or risottos for added veggie content.

Makes 4-5 x 30g portions

150g frozen peas

1tbsp olive oil (or your baby's usual milk if they are just starting their weaning journey)

Steam or boil the peas in a saucepan for 5-6 minutes until completely tender. Puree in a food processor with 1 tablespoon olive oil for 5 minutes to ensure there are no whole peas left.
